Why is my car losing coolant with no puddle underneath?

Coolant can be lost through a pressurised leak that evaporates on hot components, through the heater matrix, or internally through a head gasket. Pressure testing and gas testing identify which.

Can I just top it up with water?

In an emergency, a small top-up may get you home, but water dilutes the antifreeze and corrosion protection. The leak still needs finding.

Why it becomes expensive if ignored

Continued driving while overheating can warp a cylinder head, fail a head gasket or damage pistons and bores. If the temperature warning appears, stopping safely and calling us — including for recovery — is usually the cheaper decision.
