Wheel Bearing Replacement
A failing wheel bearing usually announces itself as a hum or drone that rises with road speed and changes as you steer.
Humming from a wheel?
Signs of a failing wheel bearing
- Humming, droning or rumbling that increases with speed
- Noise that changes when swerving gently left and right
- Roughness or play felt when the wheel is spun on the ramp
- ABS warning light where the sensor is built into the bearing
- Vibration through the floor or steering
Why not to leave it
Bearings deteriorate progressively. Excessive play affects braking and steering, can damage the hub and driveshaft, and in extreme cases the bearing can seize. It is also an MOT concern.
What we do
- Confirm which bearing is at fault by inspection and road test
- Replace the bearing or complete hub assembly as designed
- Check driveshaft, CV joint and ABS sensor condition
- Torque hub nuts to specification and road test
