Should I change the timing belt at the same time?

If the belt drives the pump, yes in almost all cases — the labour overlaps and a used belt should not be refitted.

How urgent is a weeping water pump?

Treat it as urgent. Pumps rarely improve, and a seizure can destroy a timing belt and the engine with it.

Symptoms of a failing water pump

Coolant drip or crust around the pump area
Whining, rumbling or grinding that changes with engine speed
Overheating or fluctuating temperature
Coolant loss with no other visible source
Play felt in the pump pulley

Timing belt-driven pumps

On many engines the water pump is driven by the timing belt. If the pump fails, the belt must come off anyway — and if the belt is being changed, replacing the pump at the same time is usually the sensible economics. We will tell you which arrangement your engine uses.

Draining and safely disposing of old coolant
Access to the pump, including belt removal where required
Fitting the new pump with new gaskets or seals
Refilling with correct specification coolant and bleeding air
Pressure testing, temperature check and road test
