Symptoms drivers describe
- Inner or outer edge worn far more than the rest
- Centre or both shoulders worn
- Feathered or scalloped tread
- One tyre wearing much faster than its pair
Possible causes
- Incorrect wheel alignment or tracking
- Under or over-inflation
- Worn bushes, arms or drop links allowing movement
- Worn shock absorbers
- Kerb or pothole damage to steering components
What you can do
- Check pressures against the door or filler flap label
- Have alignment checked after kerb strikes or pothole impacts
- Do not just replace the tyre without finding the cause
How we check it in the workshop
We inspect the suspension and steering for play or damage on the lift, then advise on repair and alignment so new tyres last.
Is it safe to keep driving?
Worn edges can leave a tyre illegal even when the centre looks fine — worth checking soon.
