Symptoms drivers describe

  • Engine stopping while driving or at idle
  • Dashboard lights flashing as it cuts
  • Restarting immediately, or only after standing
  • Heavy steering and brakes as assistance is lost

Possible causes

  • Crankshaft or camshaft sensor faults
  • Fuel pump or fuel pressure problems
  • Ignition system faults on petrol engines
  • Immobiliser or wiring and connector faults
  • Failing earths or a loose battery connection

What you can do

  • Treat it as unsafe — losing power on a fast road is dangerous
  • Note whether it cuts hot, cold, at idle or under load
  • Ask about recovery to our workshop rather than driving it in
