Warning lights

Airbag warning light on

The airbag light means the restraint system has logged a fault and may not deploy correctly, so it is worth reading properly rather than clearing.

Symptoms drivers describe

  • Airbag or SRS light staying on after startup
  • Light appearing after work on the seats or carpets
  • Intermittent light that comes and goes

Possible causes

  • A loose or corroded connector under a front seat
  • A faulty seat belt buckle switch or pretensioner
  • A crash or occupancy sensor fault
  • Low system voltage or a previous flat battery
  • Wiring damage in a door or seat harness

What you can do

  • Mention anything recently fitted or removed inside the car
  • Avoid clearing the code without finding the cause

How we check it in the workshop

We read restraint system codes with a scan tool, check the connectors and circuits the code points to, then retest before clearing.

Is it safe to keep driving?

The car may drive normally, but the airbags may not work as intended in a collision — worth booking in.
